CLASS
8
SCIENCE
1. What is Matter?
Ans. Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. Everything around us air, water, books, and even we are made of matter. Matter is made up of tiny particles called atoms and molecules.
2.
What are Elements?
Ans. Elements are the simplest forms of matter. They consist of only one type of atom and cannot be broken down into simpler substances through physical or chemical means.
Examples: Gold (Au), oxygen (O), and carbon (C).
(Elements)

A: धातु,

C: उपधातु
4.
What are Metals?
Ans: Metals are lustrous elements that have properties of conduction of heat and electricity.
Examples: Iron, gold, magnesium, and silver, etc.

5.
What are Non Metals?
Ans: Non-metals are non-lustrous elements that are not good conductors of heat and electricity.
Examples: Carbon, oxygen, sulphur, and hydrogen, etc.
(Non-metals)
6. What are Metalloids?
Ans: Metalloids are elements which are having properties somewhere intermediate between metals and non-metals.
Examples: Boron and silicon, etc.

7.
What are Compounds?
Ans: Compounds are pure substances. They are formed when two or more elements chemically combine in a set ratio by mass. Examples: Water (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), and sodium chloride (NaCl).
8. How can elements be combined to form a compound?
Ans: A compound is a unique substance that forms when two or more elements combine chemically. Compounds form as a result of chemical reactions. The elements in compounds are held together by chemical bonds.
9. How could the discovery of a compound that absorbs carbon dioxide from the air contribute to solving environmental challenges?
Ans: A compound that effectively absorbs carbon dioxide (CO2) from the air could significantly help mitigate climate change and other environmental challenges. Removing CO2, a major greenhouse gas, from the atmosphere could reduce global warming, ocean acidification, and other harmful effects associated with excess atmospheric CO2.
10. Consider the following reaction where two substances, A and B, combine to form a product C:
